Latvian artists are well represented on NOBA, with a particular emphasis on showcasing emerging talents. Since 2016, NOBA has closely collaborated with the Art Academy of Latvia (Latvijas Mākslas akadēmija) to provide young artists with international visibility and opportunities to launch their professional careers.
Latvia is renowned for its strong tradition in painting — established already by Vilhelms Purvītis, a key figure in Latvian art history and founder of the Academy, whose legacy continues to inspire. Within the Nordic & Baltic Young Artist Award, Latvian artists have consistently stood out, often winning the Grand Prix and particularly excelling in the painting category. This success highlights both the strength and continuity of the Latvian art school.
Latvian artists bring together the layers of their local history and landscapes with a fresh, globally engaged perspective. Their practices range from traditional painting and graphics to contemporary installation and digital media.
