Artist is based in: Latvia
Elina Vagre is a Latvian visual artist whose practice explores the relationship between water, landscape, and human experience. Growing up and living by the Baltic Sea has shaped her sustained interest in how coastal environments influence memory, identity, and everyday rituals. Water is a central motif in her work, functioning both as a physical environment and a symbolic space through which she examines the emotional and cultural connections between people and the sea.
Working across painting, charcoal and graphite drawing, and analogue photography, Vagre combines direct observation with archival research. Personal and archival photographs play a central role in her artistic process, while photography and painting operate as equal and interconnected elements of her practice.
During her studies at the Art Academy of Latvia, Vagre has participated in numerous group exhibitions, presenting her work in museums, galleries, and artist-run spaces in Latvia and internationally. She is currently preparing her second solo exhibition.
