TSEKH gallery has opened the exhibition of the artist from Odessa Ievgen Petrov. It’s dedicated to the delusions outside the window of the morning train. Imagine that you are tired of traveling, the ratio sleeps, and chimeras from other dimensions are filling the space.
Ievgen Petrov is a famous Ukrainian watercolorist. He is the author of many personal projects, including “Petrov’s Dogs” (2014 – Riga, Latvia) and “Pierce” (2015 – TSEKH gallery, Kyiv, Ukraine). The artist also took part in group exhibitions and modern art fairs in Europe and the United States.
Petrov’s sarcastic, absurd and jewelry-accurate watercolors are known in more than 30 countries. His works are in the private collections in Germany, Slovakia, USA, Turkey, France and not only.
The new project “Odessa-Kyiv Express” is a series of landscapes from the train window. They are based on photos, which were taken by the artist and mixed with images from sleepy consciousness. Petrov experiments with the technique of wet-on-wet watercolor, reproducing the stains of rain on the windows, glare and other effects.
Sometimes it’s difficult to understand whether the artist feels sorry for the heroes or whether he mocks them. “This is a project about the borderline state between dream and reality. The Hyundai train leaves at 5 am. All of the plots I saw during several trips from Odessa to Kyiv. I’m not a fan of allegories, so I pictured what I saw outside the window with maximum accuracy”, says Ievgen Petrov.
