sky of steel, 2025

12 x 17 cm

Graphite pencil, graphite dust, animation

For three months, on certain days at specific times, I sketched the arches of the dome. The view I saw through the studio window, blending with the shape of the academy’s roof, I captured each time with the most basic tool of an artist – a graphite pencil. Everyday tools for everyday life. Yet the sky drawn in graphite looked frightening, reminding me of the horror and pain unfolding thousands of kilometers away, weighing down the Ukrainian sky with a massive burden. A steel sky. It is just a brief moment in time, pausing the gloomy, terrible reality. Only the day changes; unfortunately, the sky remains gloomy. Artwork was exhibited with an animation over the book, allowing the projection to duplicate the drawings on the book pages.
