Oh how deep it lies, 2026

47 x 66 cm

Screen print on rice paper, mounted on canvas

I drew inspiration from the visual style of Rabanus Maurus’s encrypted poems. In my screen prints, the halftone dots of the image are arranged to form text within the work itself. Thematically, my work addresses domestic violence, and some of the textual elements are informed by ideas presented in Lundy Bancroft’s book Why Does He Do That? I have long explored the imagery of detached limbs in my printmaking practice. In developing these works, I have drawn inspiration from the Viviparous lizard’s ability to shed its tail. In a similar way, I have a feeling that whenever I encounter an upsetting or tragic event, a part of me is left behind.
