Screen print on rice paper, mounted on canvas

I drew inspiration from the visual style of Rabanus Maurus’s encrypted poems. In my screen prints, the halftone dots of the image are arranged to form text within the work itself. Thematically, my work addresses domestic violence, and some of the textual elements are informed by ideas presented in Lundy Bancroft’s book Why Does He Do That? For my graduation project, I created staged photographs depicting fragments of the human figure confined within the home environment. For example, an image in which a person’s hair is caught between a closing door.
