The artist´s comment on the artwork: “Niche 1 & Niche 2 are a pair of ceramic reliefs, portraying two cut-trough interiors of small apartments with similar windows & female characters. When I made this work, I thought about longing after loved ones; when you think of someone, you have the feeling that they are thinking about you too. When you miss someone, there are only two places on the earth – the place you are in, and the place they are in. I wanted to capture the emotion.
In this work the gold lustre has been used on unfired stoneware clay creating a soft, matte impression, almost as if gold leaf.”
