On May 9th, the Ukrainian Art Festival UKUFEST will open for the first time in Estonia, bringing a diverse selection of contemporary Ukrainian art to the public. The festival will showcase Ukrainian documentary photography, street art, illustration, performing arts, film, and music. UKUFEST unites art communities, raises awareness, and offers vital support to Ukrainian artists affected by the ongoing war. UKUFEST is organized in cooperation with the Ukrainian Embassy and the Ukraine Support Group in Estonia. The festival will feature several renowned galleries, including ArtDepoo, Tiiu Truus Gallery, Fotografiska, Temnikova & Kasela, and the Juhan Kuusi DocPhoto Centre.
At the ArtDepoo Gallery, five prominent Ukrainian street artists will create new works directly on the
gallery’s walls specifically for the festival. Alongside the festival, the gallery will host the Tallinn T-shirt
Art Biennale, celebrating its 10th anniversary and creating a fantastic synergy with street art. T-shirts
featuring works by both Ukrainian and Estonian artists will be produced and sold on-site to support
Ukrainian artists.
Each Ukrainian artist will be given a wall space of 5.5m x 2.6m at the ArtDepoo Gallery. The artists are
free to use any medium for their works, which should cover the entire wall surface and include at least
one removable canvas fragment that will be used in a charity auction to support the artists. The auction
will take place on May 13th at 6:00 PM in the Noblessner Foundry.
