I think a lot about my body and who will be my true love, 2026

65 x 90 cm

Oil on panel

There are a lot of things happening in this painting. You can see an animal skull, a small house and a self portrait. Small animals, flowers and two landscapes.

It might look like a collage of references but it is all a still life and visible in my line of sight. The foreground, from the blue to the green and up to the brown are all physical objects in front of me and behind that is a mirror, where you can see my face surrounded by color. You can see the reflection of the house right behind it where the chimney is. The two landscapes and the flowers around my face are images that I have cut out from a book and stuck to the mirror. I also built a wooden structure around the still life to make sure I had an even light since I am sitting next to a window. You can see the structure in the upper left and right corner. It would be interesting to develop this way of using mirrors further. Maybe using smaller mirrors in different places or a variety of angles to diffuse the perspective.

The title refers to thoughts I had while making this painting.
