Vent Space is a flourishing gallery which provides a public exhibition space and collaboration opportunities for Estonian Art Academy students.
In the autumn of 2018, master students of the Curatorial Studies and the MA in Contemporary Art programme started using the former premises of the EAA Gallery (Vabaduse väljak 6/8) for work and as a show space. They established a new team and a fresh concept for the use of the exhibition space in order to offer the official EAA Gallery – which moved to the new EAA building on Põhja Avenue – an alternative with greater flexibility, easier accessibility, and possibility for impromptu (re)action. In addition to curating shows at Vent Space, the team has been handling the daily management and communication as well as seeking funding opportunities together with the EAA Student Council.
By now, Vent Space is a flourishing student-run entity which provides a public exhibition space and collaboration opportunities for EAA students. Many students have had their first solo exhibition at Vent Space, and also numerous group exhibitions, discussion groups, workshops, concerts, and other events have taken place.
In the 2020/2021 season, the focus is on cooperation and co-creation. The international team brings together different disciplines, media, practices and skills, encouraging collaboration, spontaneity, boldness and experimentation. The team will also place more emphasis on the coverage of events and shows taking place at Vent Space.
