Kalmar konstmuseum is a museum of contemporary art on the Swedish east coast, dedicated to raising questions about the challenges of the present day and of the future. With a strong international profile Kalmar konstmuseum is considered an important art institution in the country.
The museum aims to be a place for reflection, discussion and new impressions, to function as a voice in public debate and to be a cultural engine in the region. By inviting national and international artists to reflect on contemporary issues we open up for conversations and new perspectives.
Kalmar konstmuseum offers a calendar of events including artist talks, lectures and seminaries connected to the exhibitions and on going projects. The work with children and young people is a core part of our offering and central to our program of spreading awareness and access to art and design.
The building housing Kalmar konstmuseum is by the architects THAM & VIDEGÅRD and was opened in 2008. That same year it was awarded the Kasper Salin prize by Architects Sweden for “high architectural standard”.
