In this exhibition, as well as in Kõuhkna’s creations overall, there is a special space for nature and the woman. The last one embodies the author itself or stands for a universal character. The artist has spoken about a parallel to the paintings as having a visual diary, where it can be seen herself or a representation dealing with subjects, which are interpreted into symbols. The visual metaphors and the character between them create a room for the viewer to reflect the setting according to their own story.
The core essence of this series can be an interest for the duality of this world, which is inevitable, but a harmonious and holistic experience of being alive. In addition to light and shadow, there is day and night, up and down, in short, yin and yang – it is impossible that there would be only one or the other. This two-sidedness is what the artist explores in herself and also on a collective level. The artist aims to understand that ability and courage, that if the light shines on the shadow, then the shadow ceases to be, which can be called the power of consciousness.
