My work deals with noticing the everyday, happenstance and worn out. The expanded reenactment in space of the photographic process weighs what to include and what to leave behind. In photographing signs and signing photographs I play with legibility and communication. For the most part, street signs are merely functional objects, designed to catch the eye of passersby, and they fade into oblivion just as quickly as they entered our consciousness. When you look at a sign longer than necessary, it gradually loses its function (it has conveyed its message repeatedly, to the point of exhaustion). Beneath that surface, a form emerges in which a poetic sensibility takes root. A message without a code.
