Mari Volens

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Mari Volens (1981) is an artist, photographer and translator. She graduated from the University of Tartu with a degree in French philology (2007) and from the Department of Photography at the Estonian Academy of Arts (BA, 2013; MA, 2017). She has studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts (2015–2016) in the Walls & Space Department. Using photography and installation as her main means of expression, Volens seeks ways of looking at things from different angles in her work and a relief from the established (power) structures. She recently had a solo exhibition at Tartu Art House (2020) and participated in the group exhibition The Art of Being Good curated by Siim Preiman in Tallinn Art Hall (2019).
