Séra, 2023
Lime plaster, pigments, mdf, woodframe, tile fix, stone oil
This work was my first big study of the lime plastering technique “Tadelakt” that is a two thousand years old technique deriving from Morocco. When working with the lime plaster one must push and push the material around until it hardens. The material hardening made me think of the psychological hardening of the mind that a person must go through in life. The hardening is a recurring topic for me. The figures in the work create a human wreath or a braid. Their arms are tangled and become elastic. They depict the feeling when dancing in a huge ring dance – the feeling of transcending oneself to become something bigger. In this case the ancient dance called “Séra”. I see this work as just a small piece in a huge hypothetical wall from another time where thousands of bodies entangle to create a vibrating dance on the walls.
