photographic intaglio print- chine-collé, embossment, Supported by a base sheet of Fabriano fine art paper. A series of IV variants of the work ‘Her Language’. With admiration for technique, process and intuition, Elvira intended to enhance her handcrafted optical themes with new layers of meaning. Her cameraless light designs, known as “light graphics,” originated in a photographic darkroom directly on light-sensitive paper. Abstracted impressions were then transferred to a UV-sensitive intaglio plate and subsequently etched onto fine art paper and passed through a printing press. Scraping, scratching, rubbing into the paper to create an intricate incised design, she found the feel of the workable surfaces and the musky ink aroma of the printing facilities consoling. The body of work underwent alterations during the residency, experimenting with placing color and multi-layering techniques. Through the incorporation of chine collé, a la poupée, embossment, and repurposed materials Elvira elaborated on her pieces, giving each art print an authentic quality.
