Sander Karjus

Sander Karjus

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Sander Karjus is an artist whose studies have revolved around painting, often navigating a zone of non-commitment. He is drawn to painting for the way it holds multiple histories simultaneously, yet feels an almost deathlike pull toward it — a weight of retrospection that sits in tension with a desperate yearning for open futures. In response, Karjus has recently turned to drawing and object making as tools to investigate this rich visual legacy that has shaped much of the surrounding world. Through these mediums, he seeks to create a space for figurative representation beyond the rigid structures and hierarchies of the past.
