Jaakko Pennanen Emerging artist

Artist is based in: Finland
Jaakko Pennanen (b. 1983, Helsinki) is a painter currently finishing his BFA studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Uniarts Helsinki. Before studying at Uniarts, he has studied painting at the Free Art School of Helsinki where he received the Anita Snellman Foundation grant upon graduation. His works often evolve around the human figure, which serves as a point of departure for painterly journeys exploring the human condition. The question of the individual and the collective and themes like fragility and sensitivity are important in his work. The collisions of different techniques and iconographies create tensions and raise questions: who are we and how do we see ourselves in this time? Pennanen has has held three solo exhibitions and has exhibited his works in many group shows in Finland. Recently his work was shown in the artist run Galleria Rankka in a larger group show. His works are part of the HUS collection, the Collection of the Academy of the Fine Arts Helsinki, and several private collections.
