Angeli Blombäck is a Swedish artist whose practice is rooted in a small island on the coast of Norrbotten, where she spent her childhood summers. An island and its mire recur throughout her paintings as a landscape where time is measured not in seconds or years, but through slow transformations unfolding over decades. The land carries memories of family members and traces of what once was, and what still remains in altered form.
Blombäck’s work explores the lasting imprint that this harsh, contrast-rich, and ever-changing landscape has left on her. Through painting, she reflects on the intersections of place, memory, and time, examining how landscapes shape identity and continue to inhabit those who have grown up within them.
She began her art education at Sverigefinska folkhögskolan in Haparanda, where she completed two years of preparatory studies in visual art. She later pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts, studying first at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD) in Bergen before transferring to Umeå Academy of Fine Arts to be closer to the landscape that continues to guide her artistic practice. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and recently completed a Master of Fine Arts degree at the same institution.
Throughout her studies, Blombäck has exhibited actively in group exhibitions, including at Norrbottens Museum, Norsk Trikotasjemuseum in Bergen, and Bildmuseet in Umeå. She has received the Hans Hedberg Art Scholarship for graduating artists at Sverigefinska folkhögskolan and the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts Scholarship for graduating Master of Fine Arts students.
