Viktor Sundman Emerging artist

Artist is based in: Finland

Viktor Sundman (b. 1996) works with installations and readymades, sculptures, and language in the framework of late capitalism. Through the acts of reading and writing, modifying and re-designing, he produces new connections and meanings to the spaces and objects that he works with, trying to conjure a neurotic and obsessional image. Working with the universal through singular experience, his work revolves around everyday life and its norms and practices in relation to the art object. Through acceleration, by making reproductions of reproductions, Sundman tries to locate its lost aura. By modifying and displacing the objects, their meanings shift, but at the same time something always remains: the ghost image, traces of desire, projected histories of usage, and lost functions. This creates tension between the familiar and the obscure. The works share some similarities with the objects they represent, but they speak about the process of reification and estrangement.
