Daniel Buren is a contemporary art giant who has had a total of more than 3,000 exhibitions in more than 3,000 locations and locations around the world in his more than 60-year career. Buren is especially known for the 8.7 cm wide vertical stripe he uses as his visual tool. It allows him to reveal new features of familiar spaces.
The exhibition also expands beyond the museum with various works of art and events. One week before the opening of the exhibition, the winter landscape of the Finnish metropolitan area was filled with posters of different colors consisting of vertical stripes characteristic of Daniel Buren, distributed on more than 300 JCDecaux billboards.
In May, Tapionaukio will be occupied by a work consisting of 105 striped flagsFold / Open (Ployer / Déployer)and Espoo’s Nuottaniemi will see an optimist yacht regatta sailing in striped sails in co-operation with the Espoo Yacht Club EPSSail / painting canvas – painting canvas / sail (Voile / Toile – Toile / Voile).
The tracks will also be seen in the museum space as the customer service staff joins as a living part of the exhibition Heteroclitic Essay: Vests, a place-based work (Essai féléroclite: Les Gilets, travail situé) . The staff will wear striped vests throughout the duration of the exhibition.
