Olga Melehina

Kunstniku päritolumaa: Läti

Born in Russia and based in Riga, Latvia, Olga is an artist and designer working primarily with clay. In the last three years she has got a Master’s Degree in ceramics at the Latvian Academy of Arts and began her studies towards MA in sculpture, concentrating on hand built clay objects. The latter include both figurative and abstract pieces. The focus of her current research falls on large-scale artistic installations in natural environment along the lines of Green Art and Process Art. All of this led to her recent collaboration with the Venetian Academy of Arts

As an artist she is interested in the meeting point of the philosophical and the aesthetic: the beauty and the horror of the modern age, the frailty of human existence, the curse and the blessing of time, and the imprints we leave on this ever-changing world. The basis of her creative practice is spatial relations, rather – the relationship between space and everything else — time, volume, light, shadows, human bodies and objects.

Recent award: III Place / ‘Takeda. Art / Help/ The Rule of Exception ‘ EKATERINA Cultural Foundation, Moscow, Russia. Few of my works are in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center (Latvia), Latvian Center for Contemporary Ceramics, and Shiro-oni Art Gallery (Japan). My works participated in exhibitions: South Korea, Barcelona-Milan-Zurich, Latvia, Romania, Georgia, Hungary, Japan, Russia, Lithuania
