True Lion, 2021

170 x 300 cm
€9230

Polystyrene, polyurethane foam, triaxial fiberglass, mineral powder mixed with water – based acrylic resin (A1) Sculptural object “True Lion” depicts a mental and psychological state that requires acceptance and transformation and raises questions about the fight for personal boundaries, and how to understand one’s inner self as well the place in society. Author considers that commissioned work has limited freedom, because most of the time, projects are planned far ahead and the final result is known from the very beginning – losing the adventure of the pure process of creation. In addition, projects are based on the client’s wishes and must correspond with his expectations, which often may not coincide with the vision of the author. These reasons act as a catalyst for the idea, causing a desire to look at the whole experience, from a different point of view. By switching the roles between client and executor, the author was able to analyze his own practice, as well to see his emotional state and attitude towards it. To create this piece, artist used pre-created lion frame and castings from his most recent commission project. By dematerializing and reshaping his commission work, author transforms it into the practice of contemporary art. Reconsidering personal experience, artist’s desire was to create a piece that would be able to depict personal disgust that has developed over the last few years, towards the adorable and elaborate three-dimensional object and carefully thought out details. “True Lion” – is a reaction, consequences and conclusion of the artist.
