My graduation work consists of two 350 cm tall “Rapunzel towers” installed a few meters apart and connected by a tin can telephone. What if Rapunzel was never truly alone? Perhaps there was another princess in a nearby tower, equally isolated, equally longing for connection. Through this work I wanted to explore communication, friendship, love and the courage it takes to reach out to another person. It is also a reflection on forbidden love and secrets, how secrets can both strengthen and fracture a relationship. I am drawn to storytelling and world building in my artistic practice. Through my work, I invite viewers to step into my imagination and for a moment, become part of my whimsical world. One of the most rewarding aspects of exhibiting this installation was observing how visitors interacted with it. I loved observing them talking through the cans during the exhibit. Catching glimpses of their giggles, anecdotes spun from nostalgia but also visitors coming alone and the feeling of loneliness from not having someone to interact with. The work became a space for both connection and loneliness, highlighting our shared desire to be heard.
