The exhibition is a continuation of the artist’s solo exhibition at Tallinn City Gallery in 2022. At her exhibition at Rüki Gallery, Jancis continues to observe the objects, rituals and myths connected to beauty and self presentation, in which case she is interested in their impact on self-perception and self image. The focus of the exhibition is mirror and its psychological and mythical secondary meanings, its development from a luxury item to an every-day object and the role of a mirror at introspection and self presentation. Using her works Jancis reflects on the obsessions connected to beauty and youth, also on the desire to meet social expectations and on woman’s relationship with her reflection and the ghostly presence of her own image.
Cloe Jancis (1992) is an artist living in Tallinn, working mainly in the media of photography, video and installation. She graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a bachelor’s degree in photography (2018) and is currently studying in the master’s programme of the Faculty of Liberal Arts at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Her works have been exhibited at many galleries in Estonia.
The exhibition will remain open until 18th of June.
The exhibition is sponsored by Cultural Endowment of Estonia and Viljandi City Government.
