On Wednesday, November 19 at 5 PM an exhibition by Tiina Kaljuste & Rave Puhm titled “In the Box” will open at Pärnu Artists’ House gallery. You are welcome to attend!
There is sometimes an irresistible urge to peek over a fence, through a hole in the garden, or between the palings. To look into lighted windows while walking in the evening, to peek through slightly ajar doors… It is so exciting and thrilling to see some semi-secret place that is not meant for everyone to view.
The exhibition “In the Box” offers an opportunity to peek and gaze into six cubic-meter boxes, where in the confined space unfold possible freedoms— figures and imaginations created by Tiina and Rave, which often find their form in ceramics.
Into three boxes, Rave Puhm has packed expressive visions of human fragility and strength, of our avoidable and inevitable choices, of visible and invisible dreams.
In the three other Tiina Kaljuste’s etudes on human desire to change their surroundings can be found – three sentiments on presumptuousness and sorrow.
The artists’ works are together in the Pärnu Artists’ House, but at the same time separate. Quite lifelike — we are together, yet still on our own (in our own boxes).
Tiina Kaljuste (b. 1969) is an artist and ceramicist who works in a 56-cubic-meter, stove-heated box in the orbit of Tallinn.
Rave Puhm (b. 1972) is a ceramic artist who saw the light of day in the Pärnu Maternity Hospital. She currently works about 30 kilometers from the Tallinn-Pärnu highway, among old smoke-soaked logs, where she is also the hostess of Tagametsa Loovusmaja.
