Since 1976, the Spring Exhibition has been an important yearly meeting for Norwegian photographic art. During 46 years, and through almost an equal number of editions, this series of exhibitions has impelled photography’s position within the Norwegian art field. In line with the tradition of the Salon, the exhibition presents work selected through a jury of peers based on open submission. Every edition of the Spring Exhibition grants the unique opportunity to explore the current tendencies within the photographic art field. It is an expression of our time.

What concerns the artists of this year’s edition? The jury, led by Sofie Amalie Klougart, writes:
This year’s exhibition comprises works by eleven artists that distinctively explore the time in which we are living. Thematically and technically, the works express a rich diversity within the field, including virtual reality, documentary, and fictional videos, analogue darkroom photography and sculpture. We found thematical tendencies through the jury proceedings that centered this year’s exhibition around three recurring themes: nature, the performative and sci-fi. Through this gesture, we hope to open the exhibition for its visitors. We have invited three different professionals – musicologist and research fellow at the Norwegian Academy of Music Hild Borchgrevink, critic and author Bernhard Ellefsen, and curator Antonio Cataldo to write their essays on these themes and selected works. We will also arrange three sessions with artist talks with the writers and authors during the exhibition.
ABOUT THE SPRING EXHIBITION
The Spring Exhibition is an annual event by artists for artists. Decided by resolution at the General Assembly of FFF in 1976, the Spring Exhibition was established, as a response to the Autumn Exhibition, to ensure the position of photography within the Norwegian contemporary art field. The exhibition develops through open submission and a peer-to-peer jury process.
