On Thursday, December 5, at 5 PM, Triton – Study of Harmony by Mika Vesalahti opens at the Rüki Gallery. The series is based on the tritone interval of music, which is used to express contradiction.
Triton – Study of Harmony deals with the chaos and violence of our time. “The idealism of the arts has been destroyed in our time. We live in the grip of violent forces,” comments the artist.
In his paintings, Vesalahti pursues the tension between the collapse and disintegration of form. Horror is combined with beauty. The paintings reflect the wars in today’s world. The artist asks whether painting can deal with the violence of the world, bring together the contradictions and liberate the repressed, making the process an integrative one.
