Exhibition “1+1=Art?” is about two dudes, who met through art and realised that they have even more in common than just creativity. This exhibition invites the viewer to answer the question whether this is art, how it creates an effect and does it work – or more trivially – is it likeable?
The artists narrate:
“We first met just over two years ago when we had two individual exhibitions at the same time in the same gallery. At that moment we could never imagine that a few years later we’ll be having our paintings side by side on the same wall and under one exhibition title. The idea for this exhibition came from an understanding that we both like and respect each others work. We both find details and nuances in our art that we can benefit and learn from. We both have something that we don’t have the courage to do or we simply don’t know how to. We decided to hang our own art on the gallery wall and we are also including two artworks that we exchanged with each other. We basically continued painting each others paintings. The point is to have fun and not take art too seriously, because drawing over things is in our blood. Whether it is destroying faces in magazines or leaving your drawings everywhere in school.”
What happens when two artists whose creative processes are completely different come together and decide to organise an exhibition? There are many ways how this can turn out, unimaginable ways. In Henrik’s and Siim’s case it’s a slice of insanity, giving your artwork to another person and letting them do whatever they desire.

Henrik Hürden’s art practice examines the conflict between the natural and artificial. He is inspired by technical and mechanical objects, mythical stories and long walks in nature. His paintings often theatrically convey frozen or stored moments that have a mystical or unworldly atmosphere.
Siim Hanikat
Siim Hanikat has studied at the Open Academy of Estonian Academy of Arts and Tallinn University Baltic Film and Media School. His artworks mostly depict female figures that are in various stages of the creative process, created with different materials from pencil to graffiti. His art is curious, colourful and lively. The dominant strong colours next to the pencil’s dark black shade often create a poster-like effect.
