“Dolce Far Niente”
23.08 – 16.12.2025
The theme of the first exhibition of the 2025 season at Lauda Gallery was “Dolce Far Niente” – the pleasure of doing nothing. The idea was born in Rome, where curator Mia Melanie Saar drew inspiration from the calm and creative atmosphere during her master’s studies. The exhibition acted as a conversation – between the artist and their work, and between the art and the viewer.
The artists selected for the exhibition were those with whom the curator had a prior connection – either through shared studies or meetings at joint exhibitions. For each work, the “charm of doing nothing,” which is the basis of the creative process, was sought. One wall of the hall was dedicated to the art collection of her father, Erki Saar, featuring true gems of Estonian art. This showed how contemporary young art converses and intertwines with the classics.
The exhibition reflected the inner world of young artists and the Estonian art landscape of the time. The theme of landscape appeared particularly often, showing the strong connection Estonians have with their roots. Each work in the exhibition seemingly came to the curator, and her role was to bring them together into an inspiring whole. “Dolce far niente” invited us to engage not only with what we see but also with what we feel.
