NOBA Nordic Baltic contemporary art platform

Galerie Forsblom is happy to present an exhibition by Tuukka Tammisaari, for the first time at the gallery in Stockholm. Tammisaari’s paintings include references to art history, personal events, memories and observations of nature at large. With an assembly of naïve art, neo-expressionism and playfulness, the motifs and the mixing of color, are equally important in his artworks.

The title of the exhibition Ricochet is about immediacy, unintended effects and consequences. Synonyms like rebound, recoil and backlash define the word. Ricochet rings in your ears and wants to roll around your mouth, like the taste of a savory sweet dish. Tammisaari serves us appetizers in his smaller formats and large plate of dishes in his grand paintings, measuring up to two meters. He presents a vast collection of ingredients, where fundamental forms like the circle, the half circle, and the irregular patterns of nature are recurring. The repetitive pattern of a string of beads, and even in the shape of a fruit, appear, just to be digested.

Characteristics like heavy paint, strong brushstrokes, and expressiveness in color together with recurring elements, define the paintings. The round forms have a controlled expression while the colored brush strokes are its reverse, its ricochet. The paintings are figurative and yet abstract at the same time. Sometimes form conquest over color, other times form collides with color. The letter T re-appears in some of the paintings and defines them – it is a sign that is axiomatic; obvious and self-evident. It is a reaction or a counter action, a balance between the reason, intellect and emotions, canalized into painting, like a catharsis experience, that could also be described as a culinary experience.
