oil paint and crude oil on linen

This painting shows a sculpture standing in Mažeikiai. It is made of pipes from an oil refinery and is dedicated to the oil workers of the city. No information is available about it, the author and year of its creation are unknown. The anonymous monumental sculpture is now a painting, painted with crude oil. When I was drawing the compositional options, I was looking for a way to approach the motif to make the painting work without being an iconic rendering of the sculpture. I chose to scale up the image thus giving the sculpture a dynamic quality by enlarging it. Copper pipes painted with a light hand seem transparent, appearing almost light in weight. The knot implies confinement, closure and discomfort. Most of my motifs on canvas are alone, sometimes neglected, they are able to feel strong, even in solitude, because that is their given condition.
