The artist dreams of planting Ulex europaeus in their garden. The plant’s bright yellow flowers, coconut-like scent and thorny branches provoke an intense, almost physical attraction. Yet it is also an invasive species—highly flammable, fast-spreading and ecologically problematic.
The work depicts a wild garden where people lounge with a sense of superiority, like tourists on a trip. The carefree human presence contrasts with the vulnerable world of plants and other non-human species. The artist expresses tenderness toward non-human life—an attitude undermined by the clumsy ways in which humans exercise their own power.
