The peacock is nature’s own masterpiece, a living embodiment of beauty – endlessly admired, photographed, and idealized. But how often do we stop to listen to its voice? Its call is not melodic. It’s raw, jarring, almost unsettling, as if rebelling against the notion of being seen only for its appearance. In that lies a deeper truth, one that echoes within us. We, too, are complex and multifaceted beings, yet so often reduced to labels and categories we spend a lifetime trying to escape. Beneath the surface, there’s always more than meets the eye. This painting was largely inspired by a photograph taken by an incredible wildlife photographer, Alexander Ley, who generously gave me his permission.
