The Carriage Bird, 2026
Oil on panel
This still life took some time to arrange and complete before I was able to start drawing and painting. I found the bird in the garbage and I then spent a lot of time putting steel wire into the bird to make it look like shabby feathers. A while later I found the wagon at a second hand shop which was the perfect partner to the bird since they match in size. I then arranged the rest of the objects in relation to the bird and the wagon to make it a proper scene. I also made the staircase from scratch using chicken wire and clay.
I see this painting as a milestone in my painting process. It is the painting that I have spent the most time on, also the biggest still life I have made. I think I would have spent more time painting on it if I didn’t have the deadline of our graduation show. I
will definitely keep on painting in the spirit of this one. The title refers to the motif.
