Space for the Everyday: Object 4 (Chandelier), 2023
Wood
The object is part of a series that explores the spatial needs of the objects surrounding us. The chandelier is a form that occupies a large volume of space while remaining relatively light in mass. This approach allows the creation of a large spatial form with a minimal amount of material.
The sculpture occupies approximately 17 m³ of space. The form is organised around a central vertical axis, with its sides mirrored in six directions. The sculptural volume is divided into three sections.
The work is made from inexpensive construction timber, creating a dialogue between the form of the object and the associations related to its material. Sketches, technical notes and brass screws are visible on the wooden surface; instead of the crystals typical of chandeliers, these elements relate more naturally to the simple building material used.
