In a time when we are surrounded by so much noise, I wanted to paint a sense of peace. I began reflecting on what art means to me and what place it holds in my life, and I came across a quote by Elbert Hubbard that deeply resonated with me: “Art is not a thing; it is a way.” I chose to depict someone close and important to me, reading a book that contains this quote. For me, the painting became a reflection on art as a way of seeing, experiencing, and moving through life. Through this work, I wanted to capture a moment of stillness and quiet presence, while also passing that feeling of peace on to the viewer.
