tall grass, polyurethane foam, bedding, fan, projected moving image, stereo sound

Tall grass slowly turns yellow and dies upright, growing from a bed. The continuous hum in the room is interjected by the cooing of a wood pigeon, while a synthetic light phenomenon appears on the wall as a reminder of the passage of time. Light is a material that records lived moments as images; visual traces of memory, an error in time. This installation work emerged when I was in the presence of a deceasing loved one, in a situation where most people are at some point of their lives, and I wanted to re-create the complexity of grief as a sort of memory-object. During the grieving process I captured light phenomena with a camera, edited them and projected them back to the wall. In the installation, this projection also lights up the grass and bedsheets from time to time. The stereo sound consists of hum, birds chirping and a scratching sound that is looping which makes the installation feel like it’s stuck somewhere between memory and reality. Grass collected from nature seems to move in the wind, but the wind machine making this happen is hidden from the viewer. The installation was part of the 2026 BFA Exhibition in Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki alongside two photographic prints.
