Night Window, 2024
oil on linen
The joint title of a seven-part body of works is Night Window. It is exhibited in BFA Exhibition 2024 in Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki. Composed of oil paintings of varying sizes, the work’s design and the way it was hung was inspired by the properties of the high exhibition space. The paintings and the composition in hanging were affected by a fascination with layers, boundaries, and transitions that take place within the mind, in time, and on canvas. The work is associatively based on the idea of Johari window; a model sometimes used as a tool in therapies for self-knowledge and social interaction skills. Work equates the layers and contrasts of a painting to complex structures of human experience, like perception, awareness and imagination.
