Kyrie eleison, 2023
118 x 177 cm
Oil on canvas.
In this cycle of works I am focusing on the thin line of meaning between the illegibility of matter: the sculpture embodying the human image and the perception of sculpture in the pictorial medium. I focus on what makes us question the reality of the image. I aim to convey the image as realistic as possible, using motifs such as antique and ancient Roman sculptures, mostly, from museums of Rome. I replicate an existing object, making it as real as possible, in order to bring into question the meaning of the human form in its inanimate state. Also to consider how historical artifacts look in a contemporary context. These works have been shown at ‘‘Rupert“ gallery in Vilnius, 2023.
