NOBA Nordic Baltic contemporary art platform

In the falling snow, 2025

160 x 140 cm
€3230

oil on canvas, glass

The installation is based on the principle of Kire-tsuzuki, a traditional Japanese art method where a fragment is separated from its original context and inserted into a new space. Here, the figure of a beast, carved from an authentic Ukiyo-e woodcut, is transposed into a contemporary visual structure. The glass fragment acts as a conceptual cut – a fragile but clear boundary marker between history and the present. The “X” shape stamped on it marks a point of tension where different layers of time, space and meaning intersect, and highlights the fragment’s ability to be reborn in a new context. The installation was presented in a solo exhibition at the Art Niche Gallery in Vilnius (2025).
