It is more complicated with darkness: darkness is an unknown territory. The shadow can be viewed as a lack of light. As something negative, or death. But darkness can also be viewed as a completely separate phenomenon, a thing in itself; one facet of existence. I close my eyes and darkness wraps around me: warm, soft, sustaining. The deeper I delve, the thicker and safer it seems. I perceive a certain femininity in its denseness; the full, abundant and supportive existence emerging from the black soil and the depths of the earth, as well as fertility, the bubbling of life and potential.
