Breakfast Outside, 2022

129 x 193 cm
€3300

Oil on panel (129x193cm), sand, wood, styrofoam, fungal and slime mold spores inside sugar and epoxy resin, glass.

Breakfast Outside was inspired by crossovers, weird interactions and hybrids. It grew around feelings of uneasy: familiar and yet unfamiliar atmospheres. When different kinds of logics collide, and when different timespans and materialities interact with each other, something can arise that is more than the sum of their parts. The painted piece of the installation was affected by mixing AI into the sketches of the painting process. AI in itself is a weird hybrid: a combination of algorithms and human aesthetics, and ways of naming and framing pictures and ideas. The painting was installed like a billboard in a sandy environment, which is or isn’t of the same world as the painting. The sculpted objects in the sand are also unholy hybrids: life containing fungal and slime mold spores have been cast inside sugar, but also in toxic epoxy and acrylic resins. These materials will break down at different rates, and the spores might get released gradually into the future. Price is for the painting only. Sculpted objects are sold separately.
