999 x 999 cm

charcoal, paper, acryl, digital camera

The aim of the work is to draw attention to the inequalities of human and animal positions. The drawing was inspired by the event that happened on January 3rd 2020 in Utena, Lithuania, when a bison was shot by a hunter who confused it with the boar. A bison (bison bonasus) is an endangered animal. Artwork is photographed in Totoriu street, Vilnius; photographer – Oleg Sucharev. Bison’s eyes are pointed directly to the viewer. The drawing is held by the artist, on the street, thus the artist identifying herself with the bison, gets into confrontation with the human as if the animal accidentally ran into the street. In this position the human can save the animal’s life or end it.
