Urmas Puhkan

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Position of the artist Colours and painting have been important for me for my whole life. Over thirty years, I have practised mainly sculptural ceramics, and also continuously painted. Some years ago, for reasons related to health, painting acquired a new meaning for me. Now it is also a colour therapy, providing strength and peace of mind. Currently, painting is my main artistic output option. I gather inspiration by moving around and finding situations, where nature or buildings speak to me. I like to observe, how the same tree, park, house, etc, can generate different emotions, depending on light, season or my own mood. The most important goal for me is not to record photographically a specific view, but to render the message and emotion hidden behind visible image. Such approach presumes certain „reconsideration” of the viewed composition. In case of some works it may take years, until I reach the final result.
