Renāte Pagaste Emerging artist

Renāte Pagaste

Artist's country of origin: Latvia

Pagaste’s work explores their relationship with their body. Having repeatedly experienced their body being turned into a crime scene, their relationship with it has been difficult, to say the least. Their paintings reflect their personal story, healing process, and grief. Through painting, Pagaste conveys deep feelings that are challenging to articulate. They use humor to portray hard and shameful experiences, as well as self-irony. Painting serves as a means of healing, and the progress is evident in the ever-changing themes of their artwork. The true meaning of their art becomes clear in retrospect, as painting allows them to bypass the conscious mind and delve into the subconscious, where all the secrets lie.
