PUSA (Piret Bergmann (Torim))
The patterns and lines in Pusa’s paintings take the viewer on a journey that tells a story of creation and anticipation, withering and blooming, purity and chaos. Everything human. Everything that could make the viewer a better person or bring them back to the purest childlike innocence. Though at first glance, in their playful simplicity, Pusa’s works may seem like mere illustrations or decorative pictures, this is a mere illusion. They are like tiny mosaic pieces, whose endless life-magic may not reveal itself in a single painting; but when her entire body of work is viewed together, it reflects a boundless journey into, out of, and through the human being and everything in between. Life goes full circle in her works, always returning to the grassroots – continuing the same path toward new beginnings.
Pusa was born in 1979 in Noarootsi and graduated from the Pärnu College of the Estonian Academy of Arts, better known as Academia Grata. She works daily as a painter in Pärnu and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
She has also written and illustrated several children’s books, the most recent being “Important Dots” (“Tähtsad täpid”), published in 2024 in collaboration with Helle Kirsi. She has received several awards: the Ants Laikmaa Young Artist Award (1998), the Yearly Award of Culture of the Pärnu County (2008), and the Pärnu Art Annual Award (2011). Pusa is also a member of the Estonian Artists’ Association and Estonian Painters Association.
