Mette Matilda Emerging artist

Mette Matilda

Artist's country of origin: Finland

Mette Matilda is a Helsinki based artist. She is a student at the Academy of Fine Arts, Uniarts Helsinki. She is at the beginning of her career as she is currently doing her masters studies. Her practice is based in sculpture. She works in a variety of mediums. Ceramics, plaster, wood, and wax to name a few but her style of transforming the materials into organic shaped organisms that disappear the original medium makes all her works recognisably hers. Rather than reproducing familiar objects she brings the viewer into her own world with bold colour choices that evoke emotion. Themes of her work tend to be in the liminal space between natural and artificial, real and imaginary, and alive and inanimate. Her works are more poetic than theoretical as she is more interested in making seeing her work an experience rather than just looking at items.
