Mauri Gross

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Mauri Gross (born 1969 in Rapla) studied art in Tallinn University and stage design in Estonian Academy of Arts. In 1998 – 2007 he was a graphic design tutor in Estonian Academy of Arts.Since 2009, Gross has been working as a freelance artist, expressing himself mainly through oil painting. His other fields of work include graphic design and interior design.

Mauri Gross is driven by respect for traditional painting. In his paintings, he is researching the subjective value of painted figures and their meaning. He often paints ordinary everyday things, trying to see how their meaning changes when brought to the limelight via classical oil painting.

Gross is a member of Estonian Artists’ Association and has been participating in solo and group exhibitions and different art-related projects since 1991.
