Kiia Karjalainen (b. 1992, Espoo) is finishing her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts Helsinki. She graduated in Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kankaanpää Art School in Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in 2024. Karjalainen works in the expanded field of printmaking, in the middle ground between printed art, drawings and paper art. Paper is the main material of the works, through which she describes and reflects on artistic work. A sketchbook is a form and a theme that recurs in her work. Karjalainen has actively participated in group exhibitions both in Finland and abroad since 2012 and has held solo exhibitions. Her works can be found in the Finnish State Art Collection and in numerous private collections. Karjalainen has been awarded the Keele Foundation’s recognition award for her installation Platform, which she created as her bachelor’s thesis, and her work has been supported by the Finnish Art Society with a grant for young artists in 2024 and the support foundation of the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2026.
